Bouteille publicitaire irlandaise de 1936 en forme de poisson « Irish good luck sweep »

Bouteille publicitaire irlandaise en forme de poisson datant de 1936 (la bouteille mesure 24 cm de hauteur. Sur le flanc est écrit « Irish good luck sweep » et au cul « bottle made in irish free state ».

Il s’agit d’un des milliers d’exemplaires qui ont été jetés dans les eaux côtières de Grande-Bretagne en 1936. Celui ou celle qui trouvait une de ces bouteilles (un message en trois langues était glissé à l’intérieur) pouvait se rendre à une auberge locale et choisissait gratuitement une bouteille (pleine) de son choix. Il s’agit d’un coup de pub des « Irish Sweepstakes ».

« There are also soda bottles from Thwaite’s, the oldest soda makers known. In 1936 the Irish Sweepstakes was publicised by turning out thousands of bottles shaped as fish with the message ‘Irish Sweep– Good Luck’ in raised letters on the glass.

These were dropped into the coastal waters around Britain and inside they had notices in three languages saying that the finder was ‘entitled to a bottle of whatever drink he or she chooses at the local hostelry and an invitation to drink to good luck in the Irish Sweepstakes’. »
